Qualicum Beach - Beach Day Celebration - July 21st
This year it's the 70th anniversary of the incorporation of the Town of Qualicum Beach. What better time to celebrate one of our most valuable assets - our spectacular beach. So for the very first time, let's have a summer beach party!
The idea began with wanting to organize something that would be good beach fun for the young people of this area...and an event for us 'oldsters' to enjoy too!
The level of community support in putting this together, led by a small team of dedicated volunteers, has been awesome. There will be food, live music and fun going on all day from 8 am to 7pm. Visitors are encouraged to park throughout the community and walk to the beach.
Shriners offer a pancake and fruit breakfast starting at 8am. Then at 11am to closing the Kiwanis have it covered with a BBQ salmon & corn complimented with the Beach Hut offering BBQ hot dogs, drinks and more.
Beach activities get going about 11 am with a sandcastle competition for all ages, skimboarding thrills and spills, 9-hole disc golf with some hot shot demos, thrilling beach volleyball and tug-of-war challenges. Bring your team on down and show us how it's done! You may wish to present a challenge to another business or organization to meet you on the sands for a little friendly competition...
There will be lots to do for the younger kids, including facepainting, giant bubbles, hula, parachute games, beach seining and VIU shellfish/beach ecology awareness display.
The Qualicum First Nation will offer a traditional blessing of the beach along with the Mayor and Council official opening at 12:30pm.
A vintage swimsuit fashion show will be followed by modern bikini perspectives.
A variety of talented local musicians and entertainers provide a stimulating backdrop for this all day beach celebration event. Gerry Barnum and his Band are the grand finale at 5:30 to 7pm.
Get a team together, bring your family and friends and come enjoy your beach!
